Criterion A  Strand 4 - The Design Brief

iv.  develop a detailed design brief which summarizes the analysis of relevant research.

The command terms for this strand are:

Develop  -  To improve incrementally, elaborate or expand in detail. Evolve to a more advanced or effective state.

Summarizes - Abstract a general theme or major points.

You should start this strand by answering all of the research questions in your research plan (Criterion A strand 2).

The data that you gather when answering the questions should be recorded in a RESEARCH APPENDIX which goes at the end of criterion A.

Once you have gathered your research data and completed your product analysis you should summarize the important parts which are relevant to your project and use this to form your design brief.

The design brief is your opportunity to set out what you intend to do to solve the problem.  It should give a broad overview and may include different options, don't be too specific at this point.  For example if you have researched colour schemes or materials you can present all your findings and suggest some of your options, rather than stating exactly which colour or material it will be.

The design brief should be your own work, do not copy and paste sections of text into it.

extra information on writing a brief

You have used MLA format for any citations

You have developed a clear design brief which summarizes your product analysis and research.  It gives a broad overview of how you intend to solve the problem.  It shouldn't restrict you later in the design process so keep it broad and general.
